The gaming industry is massive, and so many people want to get involved, in some way. Is becoming a gamer saturated now? Is the gaming niche too populated for new content creators to make it? From a novice point of view, you may say, “yes”. You see all the gaming channels with all the subscribers and viewership. These channels have been around since the very beginning of YouTube. However, what if the answer to this question is not what you think?
Let’s look at the definition of the word.
Saturation can be explained in many different ways, mostly through chemistry. However, I will break it down by looking at three terms. We will then take those words, and apply it to the real world.
The Gaming Industry is Undersaturated
When something is undersaturated, it means that the volume by which a space can occupy is incomplete. Think of it as a 100ml container, which only has 30ml of water in it. Compared to the container, we can put more water into the container, at most 70ml more.
The Gaming Industry is Oversaturated
Oversaturation occurs when there is more substance in volume compared to the space that can contain it. With the 100ml example, this means that not only is the container filled with 100ml of water, it is overflowing with excess, and so we are spilling water outside of the container, with nothing to hold it. In other words, the market is not able to process all the water at its current limit.
The Gaming Industry is Saturated
Something is saturated when it is at a level where it can no longer fit within a space. In other words, a 100ml container has exactly 100ml of water. Its perfect. Nothing more, nothing less.
Market Analysis
Now, let’s apply this to the real world. If the gaming industry for new gamers is undersaturated, that means that there is more market demand for what is being pushed out. If the gaming market however was oversaturated, then that means that there is more supply (water) then there is for demand (the container).
As a result, to meed the supply, you must create the demand ie get another container. Therefore, if you have 150ml of water, and a 100ml container to put it in, does it make sense to get or create a 50ml or larger container to house your reserves? Yes it does! Now, if the gaming industry is saturated, then there should be no more content creators, content, subscribers, or viewership or your media. In short, all new content creators should have 0 views, 0 subscribers, 0 likes, etc., but is that the reality you see?
The Bare Truth
So, is the gaming industry saturated, thus making it impossible for new gamers to make it in the space? Of course not. Normally, the opposing view is due to a person’s self-esteem in conjunction to the market. If anything, the industry is oversaturated, which means you have to create demand for your supply.
This comes in the form of you being yourself, and marketing yourself to the community, and let the market dictate your success. It does not mean you have to join the latest craze. You just have to be authentic, and be who you are, improving bit by bit along the way, for you to find your audience. Does gaming have a future? Yes, if you decide to become part of it. So, keep making content and keep playing the game, improving along the way, and then you will create demand for what you have.
